2007 Scholarship Tea

Over 200 people including students, parents, scholarship donors and Foundation board members and staff attended the 2007 Merrick Foundation Scholarship Tea on Sunday, April 15th. The gathering at the Central City Community Room was in celebration of the Foundation awarding scholarships totaling over $72,000 to high school and college students.

Seventy-six students were awarded 117 scholarships. Scholarship fund representatives Jeff Clark, Amy Aerni, Doris Benner, Marilyn Wilson, Norm Krug, Nora Lindner & John
Young presented their respective scholarships and commented on their fund history.

2006 Nontraditional scholarships were awarded to Judy Flagle ($400), Mary Santin ($200) and Michelle Broekemier ($400). Edward Mitchell grants were awarded to Bradley Dexter ($300) and Heather Steinke ($500). Presidential Freedom Scholarship matching funds were awarded to Cathleen Clausen ($250) and
Sarah Haake ($250). A total of $698,717.76 in grants and scholarships were awarded in fiscal year 2006.

Merrick Foundation executive director, Chuck Griffith stated “We are extremely proud to be able to offer so many scholarships to such deserving students”. We continue to work to expand our scholarship offerings to our future leaders from Merrick County.

We have been truly blessed with many thoughtful donors and dedicated volunteers on the Merrick
Foundation board. Our scholarship committee and staff put in many hours to be able to provide these scholarships. Scholarship Committee members are: Genie Solt, Marcia Bockerman, Roxanne Brandes, Kristy Clarke and Steve Twiss. Connie Hillmer is the Merrick Foundation scholarship coordinator.
