Grants Awarded

Grants Issued in Fiscal Year 2019

The Merrick Foundation is fortunate to be able to fund a variety of grant requests on an ongoing basis.  We take our job seriously so that funds will always be available to assist Merrick County organizations now and into the future.  Grants issued in the last fiscal year (11/1/2018 - 10/31/2019) include:

 

November 2018

  • Nebraska Christian School

    A grant was awarded to help fund 40 students attend an educational trip to Washington D.C.

  • Central City Boy Scouts Troop 102

    A grant was awarded to help fund the recharter fees for the organization


January 2019

  • High Plains Close Up

    A grant was awarded to help fund 9 students attend an educational trip to Washington D.C. and New York City.

  • Midland Area Agency on Aging

    A grant was awarded to help fund medical monitoring equipment assistance for Merrick County Seniors.


February 2019

  • Special Olympics

    This grant was awarded to our very own Diggin' Dolphins so they could purchase new uniforms to be used for basketball, track and bowling.

  • Central City Middle School

    A grant was awarded to help fund 10 students attend an educational trip to Washington D.C.

  • Merrymakers Association

    This grant helps to provide live professional music on a monthly basis for an entire year to senior residents at Cottonwood Estates, Litzenberg Memorial Long Term Care and the Central City Care facilities.


March 2019

  • Special Olympics

    This grant provided support for the State Equestrian Competition at the Merrick County Fairgrounds. This was the 30th year of competition and brought in athletes from all over the state.

  • High Plains Community Schools

    A grant was awarded to help fund 2 students attend the FCCLA state leadership conference.

  • Prairie Plains Resource Institute

    A grant was awarded to help provide partial scholarships for the SOAR and Youth Naturalist Program for 15 students.

  • American Legion Baseball

    A grant was awarded to American Legion Baseball for program support for the 2019 season.

  • High Plains Community Schools

    A grant was awarded to help fund 3 students attend a STEM trip to Florida.

  • Central City High School

    A grant was awarded to help fund 1 student attend a DECA international career development conference.


April 2019

  • Palmer Volunteer Fire Department

    A grant was awarded to help with the cost of an extrication kit, 5 helmets and fireworks for a community gathering.

  • Fellowship of Christian Athletes

    A grant was awarded to help fund 40 students attend a summer leadership camp.

  • Stampede Softball

    A grant was awarded to help pay partial costs of a pitching machine and new jerseys.

  • Twin River Public Schools

    A grant was awarded to help fund 5 students who attended a FCCLA national leadership conference.

  • Twin River Legion Baseball Program

    A grant was awarded to Twin River Legion Baseball for program support for the 2019 season.


May 2019

  • Chapman Township Cemetery

    A grant was awarded in order to help purchase a 48 niche columbarium for the cemetery.

  • Merrick County Home Delivered Meals Project

    A grant was awarded to help provide funding for seniors in Clarks who are participating in the Home Delivered Meal Program.

  • Silver Creek Ball Association

    A grant was awarded to the Silver Creek Ball Association for new shirts and hats for the t-ball team.

  • Silver Creek SAL Post #263

    A grant was awarded to help fund Phase II of the Ralph Jilg Field renovation project.

  • Clarks Public Library

    A grant was awarded to help fund the cost of a bookcase, books and new computers.


June 2019

  • Central City Public Schools

    A grant was awarded to help fund the partial cost of eight sets of CPR manikins and AED trainers. The equipment will be housed at the school but available community wide to rent.

  • Merrick Medical Center Foundation

    A grant was awarded in partnership with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services to provide coverage in a healthcare shortage area.


July 2019

  • Merrick County Child Development Center

    A grant was awarded to help with the cost of required training from DHHS, new security cameras as well as supplementing revenue lost with the child care subsidy program.


August 2019

  • Central City Fire Department

    A grant was awarded to help pay the partial costs of the annual fireworks display.

  • Palmer FFA

    A grant was awarded to help fund 20 students who are attending the national FFA convention.

  • Bison After School Program

    A grant was awarded to help offset the costs associated with building rental as well as assistant teachers at the Bison After School Program.


September 2019

  • Merrick County Entertainment Corporation

    A grant was awarded to provide partial assistance in the payment of the Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant program.

  • State Theater Foundation

    A grant was awarded to the State Theater Foundation to assist with a new entrance that will improve accessibility for all customers in addition to a new sidewalk that will provide a ramp and slope to meet ADA requirements.

  • Palmer Senior Center

    A grant was awarded to provide continued support for a program that allows seniors in Palmer to meet weekly for meals and fellowship.

  • High Plains FFA

    A grant was awarded to help fund 7 students who are attending the national FFA convention.

  • Central City FFA

    A grant was awarded to help fund 16 students who are attending the national FFA convention.

  • Silver Creek Cemetery Association

    A matching grant was awarded to help offset the costs associated with the upkeep of the cemetery.


October 2019

  • Clarks Rescue Squad

    A matching grant was issued to help fund the purchase of a Zoll X-Series AED/12-Lead Monitor. The previous equipment was over 12 years old, with limited capabilities and limited ability to work while the ambulance was in motion.

  • Eyes of a Child Team 5.3

    Led by Lynelle Homolka, this grant was issued to offset the cost of film rights of "Foster" a film that will be shown at an event this winter. The community will be invited in order to learn more about foster care and why it's needed in Merrick County. A panel discussion with leaders across the state will follow the movie.

  • Merrick County Historical Museum

    A grant was issued to help with the cost of purchasing materials needed to ensure there is better storage, exhibition and handling of collection artifacts. This will help ensure the preservation of historical objects for future generations.

  • Merrick Medical Center

    Merrick Medical Center requested a payout of Merrick Medical Center "Agency" Endowment fund in order to meet their $5 million dollar fundraising goal.
